About Persuasion and the Public Good

Coercion involves the use of intimidation to compel a person to do an act against their will by the use of psychological pressure, physical force, or threats. It is one method used to control behavior.

The main problem with coercion is that it is not in alignment with a free society. Coercion involves forcing people to do something against their will.

In a free society, persuasion is the preferred method for convincing people to adopt a particular action or belief system. It involves understanding your audience, and then using that knowledge to persuade people to adopt a way of thinking or to change their behavior.
